Elks Lodge Hosts Annual Hoop Shoot

Kids compete to see who can make the most of 25 free throw attempts.

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) – Young hoopers in Fargo got an opportunity Saturday to maybe make some noise on the national stage.

The Elks Lodge in Fargo – number 260 – held its annual Hoop Shoot free-throw contest at Fargo Parks Sports Center.

Registration was free and then the kids were divided into three separate age brackets.

Each participant had 25 shots, with the winners out of each age group moving on to the state competition in Jamestown.

The Elks Lodge says that events like these are a great way to change the overall perception of their organization.

“I don’t know if they think of it as a bar, or a place where our grandparents used to go,” said Lodge 260 general manager Ken Evanson, “but it’s for everyone.”

The winners of the state competition then go on to the nationwide Elks Hoop Shoot finals.

And Fargo does have a past winner! In 2011, Grace Geffree took first place in the 10-11 year old age bracket. She later went on to play basketball at Augustana College.
