National Non-Profit Speaks Out Against Resolution On ‘Kingship of Jesus Christ’ in North Dakota
BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Freedom From Religion Foundation is opposing a resolution that the North Dakota Legislature is considering.
The resolution sponsored by Republican Rep. Nico Rios of Williston would have North Dakota acknowledge the ‘Kingship of Jesus Christ.’
If resolved it would be sent to the President, Governor and each member of the North Dakota Congressional delegation.
The nonprofit believes that if this resolution were to happen it would turn non-Christians into second-class citizens.
“Protect the separation of church and state because that really protects everyone. You know that’s what we really want to see is the legislator working on things that will make a practical real difference in the lives of North Dakotans. Not doing a messaging bill like this. It doesn’t help anyone but sends an exclusionary message to a lot of people there,” said Chris Line, Legal Counsel at Freedom From Religion Foundation.
The North Dakota Legislature will be having a hearing on the resolution on Thursday with the House Political Subdivisions Committee.
