North Dakota Brewers Request Study To Be Conducted For THC Infused Beverages

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — Two North Dakota brewers including a Fargo brewery are pushing for the possible legalization of THC infused beverages.

Minnesota already allows such drinks.

A study was requested by the North Dakota Brewers Guild. This comes at a time when in the last few months breweries in North Dakota have been shutting their doors.

“Knowing that Minnesota and South Dakota and twenty-two states have already done this, THC infused beverages is the fastest growing segment of the craft beverage industry,” said Scott Meske, Executive Director of North Dakota Brewers Guild.

Across the world, the cannabis beverage market was valued at $2.4 billion.

“We’re looking for every revenue, generation source we can find. Beer companies are becoming beverage companies. We’re not just making beer anymore, we’re licensed as a cidery, we’ll be licensed as a distillery company, but we’re looking to branch into this product as a way to compete in markets,” said Mike Frohlich, Co-owner of Laughing Sun Brewery.

Both Frohlich and Meske mention that people may be going to states like Minnesota to purchase THC beverages and bringing it back to North Dakota. At Fargo brewery Drekker Brewing Company, many clients have already asked when it will be available.

“It’s every state around us so consumers in North Dakota want this product and North Dakota is a state is missing out on this as far as taxes, as far as industry that’s primary sector growth for the state so it’s a huge opportunity for North Dakota to look at this,” said Mark Bjornstad, President of Drekker Brewing Company.

Currently Drekker Brewing ships out several THC beverages outside of the state, but they hope that it will be brought to North Dakota. The North Dakota Legislature has also passed along the resolution with no recommendation.

The North Dakota Brewers Guild said that they will have a bill drafted up for the next legislative session in 2027.
