LIVE: Moorhead High Students talk importance of Black History
MOORHEAD, MINN. (KVRR) — As Black History Month comes to an end, students from Moorhead are getting together to celebrate.
Moorhead Speaks is an event dedicated to raising awareness, and inspiring positvie change through discussions, performances, and reflections on Black history and it’s impact today.
For the students, sharing stories of Black history from the perspective of those it has impacted is important to transforming how Black history is percieved.
They say it is important for students of color to see that Black history isn’t just the things that happened ot people of color, but also their stories.
“We’re always learning what people did to us. But I feel like when we start learning about the perspective of people, what we did to be free, what we did to learn, what we did to read and write, those type of things, I feel like it will give students of color, people of color, more to understand about who we are.”
The Moorhead Speaks event is open to the public, and will run from 6:30 to 8 PM at the Gaede Hall at MSUM.
