ST. PAUL (KVRR/KFGO) — Gov. Tim Walz says he’s open to running for president in 2028.

The Democrat made the comments to editor David Remnick on the New Yorker Radio Hour podcast.

His comments come just months after Walz ran as Kamala Harris’ choice for Vice President in the 2024 election, losing to President Donald Trump.

Walz says if it turns out he’s the person with the right skill set in 2028, he’ll run.

He says he’ll do whatever it takes if it means not having to put up with the current state of affairs in Washington.

Last week, Walz ruled out a run for Minnesota’s U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Tina Smith in 2026 and instead is considering a third run for governor in 2026.

He was first elected to the position in 2018.
