Republicans have their first contender for the 2026 governor’s race.

Kendall Qualls is planning a campaign kickoff event Tuesday in St. Louis Park.

It’ll be his second bid for governor after losing out on the endorsement at the GOP convention in 2022.

Qualls is a former Fortune 100 executive leader and Army veteran.

He also ran unsuccessfully for Congress in 2020.

Current DFL Gov. Tim Walz has not yet announced if he’ll seek a third term.

Walz has said the announcement would come after the current legislative session which should wind down in about a week.
