Safety Safari at Red River Zoo
Admission to the park was free in order to get as many children in to learn about safety as possible.

FARGO, N.D. – The Red River Zoo threw open its doors on Saturday to showcase a different kind of exhibition – one about safety.
The zoo held its annual Safety Safari, sponsored by Sanford Health.
There were demonstrations that showed the efficacy of bike helmets and other safety equipment, plus law enforcement and EMS personnel were on hand to form personal relationships with the children.
Zoo staff says that the time when kids get out of school can be especially dangerous – so it’s the perfect opportunity to give them this education.
“Riding four-wheelers appropriately. The fire department is in the back with a burn house, talking about what to do if there’s a fire. Also really getting kids familiar with safety professionals and emergency services,” said Sally Mulvena, CEO and President of the zoo.
“They can tour an ambulance, and then it’s not so scary,” she added.
Bike helmets and life jackets were available for purchase, and they even came with a free fitting to make sure they were properly tailored to each child.
