House in historic Hawthorne neighborhood in Fargo deemed a dangerous building

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Fargo City Commission has voted to deem a property in the historic Hawthorne neighborhood a dangerous building.

The owner of the property now has until August 23 to make major improvements or demolish it.

If not, the city will go ahead and tear down the structure.

Permits were issued in late 2023 for the renovation of the 1890 built house into a 3-unit apartment.

But no work has been done and it was posted as dangerous this past March.

There have been 11 calls for service to the property this year and neighbors have complained about the eyesore.

“Mr. Stonestreet has had more than adequate time to transform this building into something of value to our neighborhood. Instead he has allowed it to become an unwelcome and unsafe nuisance doing nothing to add to the property value of neighboring homes and businesses,” said Heather Johnson who lives In Hawthorne neighborhood.

If the city ends up having to demolish the property, the cost would be assessed back to the property and paid through property taxes to recoup the money.
