Great Plains Food Bank campaigns against SNAP cuts
FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — With federal cuts looming, the Great Plains Food Bank is putting out a call for help this morning.
The current budget reconcilliation bill, also known as the “big beautiful bill” contains cuts to multiple food programs including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP.
The food bank says that if funding for these benefits is cut, more people will be driven to the food bank, as they face already increasing demands amid rising grocery prices.
They are also dealing with cuts to programs that helped them purchase food from local growers.
“We had a family that was growing tomatoes for us and we had to call and say we can’t purchase your tomatoes anymore. And the mom said I have six kids, I was counting on your funds to help, you know, take care of my children. And now we’re going to be standing in your line.”
They’re asking residents of North Dakota to reach out to Senators Hoeven and Cramer about these cuts, and that they are always looking for volunteers.
