“A dream come true.”: Former Concorida Cobber/Moorhead Spud makes Professional debut
HURAN PLAYED TWO GAMES WITH THE FARGO-MOORHEAD REDHAWKS (AUG 16/17).
FARGO (KVRR) –It was a successful weekend for the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. They won the series over the Cleburne Railroaders two games to one. They accomplished that with local product Thomas Horan making his professional debut.
“An unbelievable experience,” said Horan. “You know, it’s a dream come true. You’ve always thought when you were a little kid, like, I just want to be a professional baseball player. And to get that call, man, it was amazing.”
After a successful career in baseball up to this point, Tommy Horan’s baseball journey took him to Newman Outdoor Field this weekend to make his professional debut.
Horan wrapped up his collegiate career at Concorida-Moorhead in May 2025 as the program’s all-time hits leader. Since then he has been playing Amateur ball with the Moorhead Mudcats…that was until he got a call Saturday, August 16.
“I was at my girlfriend’s lake, and [assistant coach for the RedHawks] Anthony Renz called me. 1030-11 in the morning. He’s like, hey, we need a guy to be on the bench and just in case someone gets injured. And then I was like, I mean, you get a call like that, you can’t really turn it down, so I got here. And [Manager] Chris Coste says your batting ninth and playing second base. So, it was a crazy experience. ”
In his debut he scored the game-tying run in the 10th. In his second game he drew a walk in the midst of an FM comeback attempt.
From playing high school and college ball in Moorhead, to pro ball with the Redhawks, it’s a weekend Horan says he will not forget.
“Came to a lot of games with my teammates. Renz and Coste would give us tickets for the Cobbers. So, I’ve been here a lot. To actually be on the field and play with the guys that I have been watching from the stands, it’s just so surreal. It’s been amazing support. I mean, my phone was blowing up from high school, college, just everyone in the community and it’s really nice to see their support.”
Horan says the expectation is that the this weekend was all he was asked to suit up for with RedHawks injuries. Regardless, an awesome moment for him. He has a State Tournament with the Mudcats this upcoming weekend, so the baseball journey continues.
