Fire destroys house and garage and abandoned nearby house built in the 1890’s in Douglas County, MN

BRANDON, Minn. (KVRR) — Three structures including two houses are lost in a fire Monday afternoon in rural Brandon, Minnesota.

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office says a motorist on County Road 8 NW called 911 to report the fire around 1:25 p.m.

When crews arrived the garage and an abandoned house nearby were fully engulfed in flames.

Southerly winds pushed the flames into the house with the garage and it was a total loss.

Evansville and Garfield Fire Departments provided mutual aid.

Runestone Electric Association was called to disconnect power and ZH Excavating was called for demolition purposes to aid with fire suppression.

American Red Cross is assisting the homeowners.

The cause of the fire is unknown at this time but the sheriff’s office says nothing appears suspicious.

The homeowners believe the abandoned house was built in the 1890’s.

It was also a total loss.
