Local Law Enforcement Discusses AI Usage in Policing
The discussion was part of an AI symposium at Concordia College.

MOORHEAD, MN (KVRR) – Local law enforcement leaders are sharing how they’re adapting to the use of artificial intelligence in policing.
Assistant Police Chief Bill Ahlfeldt and crime analyst Cameron Jenson of Moorhead Police Department and Sgt. Joe Crawford of Cass County Sheriff’s Office shared their experiences as part of Concordia’s AI symposium.
They say the use of AI in policing is becoming more and more prevalent as law enforcement agencies work to adapt to the rapidly changing technology.
While AI offers new tools to law enforcement, Ahlfeldt says that oversight is still a much-needed component.
“You can’t ever give over complete control to the AI, there has to be a human factor, a human boundary . . . put our seatbelt on and see where this goes,” said Ahlfeldt. “We have to react to it, we have to develop responses to what is being generated or what’s being done.”
Other speakers at the symposium spoke about AI’s growing presence across industries, from healthcare to education.
