Contracts finalized for Moorhead City Hall renovation
The 22 contracts with 18 companies were obtained through an open-records request.
MOORHEAD, Minn. (KVRR) – Contracts have been finalized with the companies involved in the Moorhead City Hall renovation project.
The 22 contracts with 18 companies were obtained from the city of Moorhead through an open-records request.
Over $3 million will be spent on plumbing, heating, and cooling systems. Another $4 million dollars was approved for electrical upgrades, curtain walls, aluminum storefronts, and windows.
“Each one of the floors is getting fully renovated. We’ve essentially done, we’ve cleaned out all of the floors, basically bringing it back down to the studs, and we’re starting over,” said Mike Rietz, Asst. City Manager for the City of Moorhead.
Moorhead City Hall was built in 1973 alongside the Moorhead Center Mall. The city has estimated the project will cost about $26 million.
“With the mall coming down around city hall, that means that the main floor of that tower would have been open to the elements or at least it would have been. It would have had the mall structure and infrastructure around it,” said Rietz.
Rietz also says city hall visitors will notice more natural lighting and artwork by local artists.
“We’re hoping to build a place that the community can be proud of. That they can walk in and feel like their city organization has provided them with a very professional place for them to do business,” said Rietz.
The renovations are expected to be completed by August, 2026.
