School referendums pass in Moorhead, Breckenridge; Fail in DGF School District

Minnesota Residents Rush To The Polls For School District Vote

MOORHEAD (KFGO/KVRR) – Voters in the Moorhead Area Public and Breckenridge School Districts approved referendums Tuesday, while those in the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton Public School District narrowly rejected a measure.

The approval for Moorhead Area Schools is for an operating levy and a capital projects levy. The operating levy passed with about 60% of the vote and the capital projects levy received about 57%. The school district says the 10-year levies will provide a total of $5.87 million annually to help fund the budget and restore financial stability.

Voters in Breckenridge approved a $58 million plan to modernize and consolidate the city’s public schools.

The levy referendum in the Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton School District failed by about 51%-49% with 619 voters saying “yes” and 652 saying “no.” The levy would have increased the general education revenue by $500 per student. Without the added revenue, the district says they will face further reductions to teachers, increasing class sizes, cuts to electives and CTE programs, and difficulty maintaining buildings.
