MAYVILLE, N.D. (KVRR/KFGO) — A massive fire broke out last night at O’Brien Seed in Mayville that had firefighters from multiple departments fighting the blaze for hours.

Compounding the problem were winds that carried embers from the scene.

Fire crews and homeowners were hosing down homes within an eight- to nine-block radius of the elevator to help prevent further spread of the fire.

As of this morning the fire was contained and a section of the building had collapsed.

City of Mayville is asking people to reduce water usage until Monday so the water plant and tower can catch up.

2nd Avenue will likely be blocked off for a couple days as the site is monitored as it smolders.

Traill-Steele Emergency Management says Mayville and Portland Fire and Rescue will likely remain on scene for the next couple of days to manage any possible flare-ups.

There is no word on the cause of the fire.
