Fargo Theatre announces plans for updated seating

Seating upgrades for the Fargo Theatre are expected to be done by March.

FARGO — Fargo Theatre makes a big announcement: the nearly 100-year-old theatre is upgrading its seating.

The upgrades start in January and it is the first major restoration project for the theatre’s centennial year in 2026.

The seats on the theatre’s first floor were installed in the 1960s, and the balcony seats were first put in way back in 1937.

Plans for the new seats include more padding and cupholders and they will be wider than the old balcony seats.

The theatre will keep the Art Deco design of the current seats while introducing modern comfort.

“We’re hoping that it’ll improve the customer experience, but these seats also are very appropriate. They fit right into our historic, Art Deco esthetic and the seats were selected to provide both comfort and to fit into the historic nature of the space,” said Fargo Theatre Executive Director Emily Beck.

The plans for upgrading the seats also includes the addition of nine seats that will be ADA compliant.
