Holiday week blizzard threatens travel in Dakotas, Minnesota

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — It’s another gust of snow traveling through parts of North Dakota and Minnesota. As both a Winter Weather Advisory and a blizzard warning stay in effect.
“As those winds pick up, I think the latest report from Fargo is one or two inches. Which is going to be enough to probably lead to those blizzard conditions once the winds pick up. So look for pretty bad travel conditions from say three to maybe nine or ten o’clock down in that area tonight,” said Tyler Thomas, Meteorologist at Grand Forks National Weather Service.
While snow has been piling up, in the city of Fargo, snow plows have been working on both the streets and the interstate to keep the roads clear. But visibility has been decreasing.
“I wouldn’t really recommend a trip to the Twin Cities right now, but if you got to go do something, got to go to the emergency room. Take it slow, be cautious, conditions are what they are, driving conditions. Don’t try to do eighty down I-29 if it isn’t really allowing you based on the conditions,” said Thomas.
While the weather seems to be fluctuating daily, Thomas says we are still on track for what the National Weather Service calls the conditions of La Nina, an above-average snowfall.
“We’re well on track to get there. Whether it takes a bunch of clippers that are one to four inches at a time or more of these type of systems where it’s six plus at a time. That’s still kind of up in the air, but it’s going to remain an active winter for the most part, probably,” said Thomas.
