Over 55,000 homeowners have already applied for Primary Residence Credit Program

BISMARCK, N.D. — North Dakota home owners are being reminded to sign up for the Primary Residence Credit Program sooner rather than later.
Established in 2023, and expanded in 2025, the primary residence credit can take up to $1600 off a homeowners property tax bill.
The entry portal opened just after midnight on New Year’s Day.
Homeowners need to apply for the tax credit before the April 1st deadline.
State Tax Commissioner Brian Kroshus says that the tax credit has been very popular, with over 55,000 homeowners applying for the credit since the entry portal opened six days ago.
“It’s a busy world and if it falls on the back burner and it’s on the to-do list. We just don’t want to see anyone missing the deadline, which is April 1. That’s the deadline to apply, but better safe than sorry and apply as soon as possible,” Kroshus said.
According to Kroshus, some residents who use the credit along with other available tax credits, like military housing credits, end up paying nothing in state property taxes.
