Family and colleagues honor the memory of Fargo Police Officer Jason Moszer

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — On February 11, 2016, Fargo Police Officer Jason Moszer was shot and killed while responding to a domestic violence call. And on Wednesday, friends, family, and colleagues gathered together to commemorate his service

“He didn’t wonder why he was going. He didn’t stop to hesitate to respond, he went. Along with other Fargo officers who were dealing with the same situation. He was representing himself as a guardian of our community and gave the ultimate sacrifice of doing so,” said Chief David Zibolski, Fargo Police Chief.

Moszer had served with the Fargo Police Department for six years. He was also a member of the Minnesota National Guard. But he was also considered a good friend.

“Jason loved being a police officer. While he may have gotten bored and frustrated at times, he loved the excitement that police work could bring. When the chips were down and people were depending on him, that’s when he truly thrived. Jason was a selfless person who was willing to do whatever he could to help his family, his friends, and the citizens of Fargo,” said Mark Ranum, Patrol Officer for Fargo Police.

Ranum, along with Moszer, was hired to work at the Fargo Police Department in November 2009. They worked the same shift, bonding with one another in both fun and hard times.

“I think it’s very important to form close bonds and friendships with the people you’re working with. In a way their your support while you’re here. Find that special person who you can relate to, tell stories with, share things with if you’re struggling, and somebody you can go to if you need help,” said Ranum.

Fargo Police will continue to honor his memory each year by sending officers to the law enforcement memorial in Washington D.C., where Moszer’s name is listed.
