Local activists turn to Downtown Fargo for the nationwide May Day protests

May Day 2026

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Activists, Red River United Indivisible, along with the North Dakota AFL-CIO, came together to join in the nationwide May Day Protest.

This year’s protest took place in Downtown Fargo at Broadway Square.

Many of the signs held up were protesting for workers’ rights and standing up against politicians like Doug Burgum.

Speakers at the event said this year’s protest was meant to stand for the workers in times of politicians pushing them aside.

“It is a little upsetting that we’re in another Robber Baron era. But it’s also great to see that just like in the 1880’s, people are willing to come together and stand together to protest it,” said Ashley Gaschk, President, North Dakota AFL-CIO.

The nationwide May Day protest is a recognition of the original protest that took place in Chicago in May 1886.
