FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — All five candidates for mayor of Fargo take part in a candidate forum hosted by the League of Women Voters and AARP of North Dakota.

They talked about some of the same topics covered during a debate on KFGO on Tuesday.

But the candidates were also asked how they would bring people together to solve the city’s issues.

They also addressed housing affordability and the ongoing homelessness issue.

The last question warranted a rapid response due to timing and it was if the candidates would support switching to a city council form of government.

Michelle Turnberg responded, “No, I do not support moving to wards it’s going to be tragically expensive.”

“Yes I think it’ll drive increased engagement with citizens, it will also make sure that every neighborhood across the community has a voice at this dais,” said Josh Boschee.

Denise Kolpack replied, “No but I support adding two more commissioners at large right now with the growth of the city and it’s to ensure that we have the best candidates running across the city.”

“Yes I support ward based because right now we the only major city, major city 100,000 and above that still runs on a commission,” said Sekou Sirleaf.

And Dave Piepkorn gave the shortest response with, “I support maintaining the current system.”

A forum for City Commission candidates was held following the mayoral candidates.

The election for mayor and two open city commission seats is June 9.
