FARGO (KVRR-KFGO) – The Fargo Education Association (FEA) has endorsed five candidates for the Fargo School Board.

The recommended candidates are Melissa Burkland, Katie Christensen Mineer, Greg Clark, Jolene Garty, and Robin Nelson. Burkland, Christensen Mineer, Clark, and Nelson are incumbents.

“Each of these candidates has an established record supporting educators and public education, which is good for the students and educators in Fargo Public Schools as well as for our community as a whole,” says Michelle Strand, FEA Chair of the Government Affairs Committee. “This slate of candidates has demonstrated the experience and skills that Fargo Public Schools will need in the coming years.”

The screening process FEA used included candidate research, written questionnaires, and candidate interviews. These candidates recognize the serious challenges that lie ahead in Fargo and in public education. President Laura Haugen Christensen says, “They did not shy away from difficult questions and were additionally able to identify concrete actions they will take to support teachers and students.”

Strand adds, “Educators want candidates who are going to stand up for our teachers as well as the students and our community.”

The FEA team, made up of teachers from across the district, came to a unanimous decision that these candidates are the best candidates for our teachers and staff, students, and community. Strand concludes, “I am proud of the committee’s process and feel confident recommending these individuals to our educators and our communities.

The School Board Election is June 9.
