BARNESVILLE, MN (KVRR) – A Moorhead man has invented a tabletop game that has already picked up a significant following in its short existence.

John McDonough is the creator of Rocket Ball, a game similar to air hockey or foosball where the goal is to get the ball past your opponent to score points.

The business is headquartered in Barnesville, and the city itself has invested money into the project, alongside the Midwest Minnesota Community Development Corporation and local supporters.

Rocket Ball has become extremely popular in places like retirement centers and nursing homes, as well as the Moorhead Buffalo Wild Wings, which has two tables.

McDonough says the idea started with a couple of handmade controllers and a table from a different game.

“I fastened them [the controllers] onto the pool table, and it was a lot of fun,” he said.

The company has sold 45 units so far, and hopes to boost sales even further this summer with appearances at trade shows.

They’re also in preliminary talks to appear on the television show ‘Shark Tank’.
