Picking Up Chicks

GLYNDON, Minn. — We’re in the thick of baby animal season, and you’re invited to get up close and personal with them at one of the region’s working farms.

The folks at That’s the Dream Farm have a series of public events coming up this spring and summer, including a chance to work with their brand-new baby chickens.

The bird who joined the Morning Show with That’s the Dream’s Kayla Klonowski is about eight weeks old, and she’ll be ready to start producing her own eggs by summer’s end.

The farm folks say they hand-raise their chickens to make sure they’re socialized enough to enjoy humans handling them.

This season, they’re also offering yoga sessions called “Poses on the Prairie” as well as their ever-popular goat yoga.

They also have a new program that invites the public to come help tend to the gardens and grounds in exchange for fresh eggs and produce.

Klonowski explained what goes into raising baby chicks into happy, healthy adult birds, the philosophy behind That’s the Dream’s animal husbandry practices, and why this little chicken still doesn’t have a name.
