Antennas Up for the Second Annual Flutter Fest
MOORHEAD, Minn. — It’s the gathering that has fans of pollinators with their antennas up.
This year’s Flutter Fest is offering more free, family-friendly ways than last year’s, all to teach the public about the insects, birds and mammals that keep our ecosystem and our food supplies humming along.
The festival, set for Tuesday at M.B. Johnson park on the city’s north side, features activities for kids, a native plant giveaway, music, food, a costume parade, and an on-site planting demonstration.
It’s the work of the people at the University of Minnesota Extension’s Master Gardeners program.
The experts will teach you all about helping to create native plant habitat for bees, butterflies and other creatures who help spread pollen to plants.
Without their pollinating action, plants can’t set fruit, meaning most of our fruit and vegetable supply would cease to exist.
The program’s Martha Wheeler and Sydney Stock joined the Morning Show to talk about why butterflies, bees, bats and birds are so critical to sustaining life on earth, and what you can do to help them out.
