“The Sioux Were Silenced”: Bring Back ‘North Dakota’ or Face Protest

A Facebook group called “The Sioux Were Silenced” says it plans to protest the nickname committee’s decision to delete “North Dakota” from the list of contenders.

A posting on their page says the group is not rallying in support of the Fighting Sioux name, but rather they want North Dakota brought back as a nickname option.

A change-DOT-org petition has even been started to bring the name back.
Last night, the committee rejected “North Dakota” and “Green Hawks” leaving Fighting Hawks, Nodaks, North Stars, Roughriders and Sundogs in the running.
