No More Jail Time for Fargo Man Accused of Smothering Daughter

A Fargo man accused of falling asleep and smothering his 2-month-old daughter after a night of drinking last summer will not serve any more time in jail.

In a plea deal, 30-year-old Nicholas Desjarlais was sentenced to time served and two years of probation.

Desjarlais had been held in jail for about five months on a negligent homicide charge.

He and his wife, Melinda, have four other children.

She wrote a letter to the judge asking for her husband’s release.
