Area kids are doing their part to help out people battling cancer.

Students at Grace Lutheran School in Fargo are collecting spare change this week as a part of their “Pennies for Patients” fundraiser.

All money raised will go to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society to assist families impacted by cancer.

Students have collected over $6,000 over the past three years during the fundraiser.

Pre-Kindergarten Teacher Jenica Boelter says, “When they’re around this age you don’t really realize the impact you can have and showing them that at an early stage of life even little things like collecting change can really and up and make a significant difference for other people.”

The class that collects the most pennies by the end of the week gets a pizza party.
