Tips For Working In Cold Environments

Cold temperatures mean staying indoors for most people. But some workers don’t have that option they have to bear the weather all winter, no matter how cold it gets.

OSHA provides tips to protect these workers:

Take frequent breaks.

Drink warm, sweet drinks like Gatorade and avoid caffeine.

Eat warm, high-calorie foods like hot pasta dishes.

Avoid exhaustion or fatigue because energy is needed to keep muscles warm.

Try to schedule work for the warmest part of the day.

One construction worker has been in that business for 20 years but he says dealing with the cold hasn’t got any easier. To find out more tips to safely work in the cold, visit OSHA’s website at www.osha.gov.
