House Defeats Prison Quota Proposal

The North Dakota House has turned down a proposal that would require Cass County jail to pay if it reached a certain quota.

The House voted 48-45 Wednesday defeating the provision. It would have charged Cass, Burleigh, Morton and Williams counties a cost for reaching a specified number of inmates. It was within the state Department of Corrections budget bill.

Law enforcement and local officials strongly opposed the provision.
