Grand Forks, N.D. — The North Dakota football will have to wait another week to make its Division I playoff debut after the Fighting Hawks were awarded a first-round bye and the No. 7 seed by the Football Championship Subdivision playoff committee on Sunday.

UND will play the winner of the North Carolina A&T (9-2) and Richmond (8-3) matchup in a home game Saturday, Dec. 3 at the Alerus Center. Kickoff time is set for 5 p.m. CT.

This will be the first FCS playoff appearance for the Big Sky co-champions since the program made the move to the Division I level prior to the 2008 season. UND wrapped up its DII era by advancing to the second round of the playoffs in 2007 when the team was also the No. 7 seed in that tournament. UND won the DII National Championship in 2001.

Winners of nine straight, which included a perfect 8-0 run in the Big Sky play, UND received first-round byes along with (1) North Dakota State, (2) Eastern Washington, (3) Jacksonville State, (4) James Madison, (5) Sam Houston State, (6) The Citadel and (8) South Dakota State.
