Bison Women’s Basketball Cruises in Season Opener

FARGO, N.D. (NDSU Athletics) – Four Bison scored in double figures to help the North Dakota State University women’s basketball team cruise to an 87-43 victory over the Mayville State University Comets in the 2017-18 regular season home opener Friday, Nov. 10, at the Scheels Center inside the Sanford Health Athletic Complex.
NDSU (1-0) is scheduled to host NJIT Sunday, Nov. 12, at 1 p.m.
Senior Taylor Thunstedt scored 21 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field, including a 4-of-8 performance from three-point range to lead all scorers in the contest, while Rylee Nudell and Michelle Gaislerova each netted 13, and Autumn Ogden scored 10.
Danneka Voegeli pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds, and Sarah Jacobson dished out a game-best six assists, while Thunstedt compiled a game-high five steals.
The Bison shot 42 percent (33-of-78) from the field, 41 percent (9-of-22) from three-point range and 63 percent (12-of-19) from the free-throw line the in contest.
NDSU outrebounded the Comets (4-0) by a 49-36 margin and scored 39 points off 30 Mayville State turnovers. The Bison also outscored MSU in the paint, 46-10, and 21-0 in second-chance points.
Andi Gayner led the Comets with nine points, while Noami Torgerson snagged a team-high seven boards.
Mayville State shot just 23 percent (11-of-48) from field and 24 percent (6-of-25) from three-point range in the game.
