LIVE: A Golden Opportunity
FARGO — She’s got a clear shot at being the top dog in the country this morning.
And a therapy dog from right here in our region needs our help to do it.
Maura the Golden Retriever is a therapy dog for Hillsboro school students, seniors, hospice patients, and countless others through our region.
She’s the North Dakota pick for Pet Partners Pet of the Year.
The nonprofit helps fund education and training for therapy animals nationwide.
Maura’s competing against a lot of other animals for the title, including other dogs, cats, llamas, mini donkeys, and even rats.
But her handler, Levi Reese, says he’s seen Maura reach people emotionally in a way humans can’t.
Reese and Maura visited the Morning Show to talk about how having Maura in our community almost didn’t happen thanks to the pandemic, how he managed to get her here in spite of the odds, and the surprising reactions people can have to a therapy dog that you might not expect to see.
