Pet Connection: Meet Onyx and Mystic

FARGO — These two are the last of a litter of seven that had a rocky start in life, and as you can see from their cuddly and compliant behavior, they’re determined to get themselves a pair of furever homes.

Mystic (the tortoiseshell female) and Onyx (the black male) were born to a mom who came in to Far North Felines heavily pregnant.

Soon after they were born, all seven kittens came down with a mystery ailment that necessitated a trip to the emergency vet, a lot of medicine, and a lot of subcutaneous fluids, round the clock.

Volunteer Debra Bartelt nursed them back to health, and now, at five months old, only Mystic and Onyx have yet to be adopted.

That might be because darker-coated cats tend to be slower to find homes, Bartelt says, likely because their features don’t show up as easily in photographs.

In person, though, their features and different personalities are very distinctive.

Mystic has a slightly spicier personality, preferring to ask for cuddles on her own terms.

Onyx is more snuggly and affectionate than his sister.

Don’t be deceived by how quiet they were on Pet Connection, though: Bartelt says these two have a talent for mischief, and spend most of their day chasing each other around the house, unrolling the toilet paper, getting themselves stuck in rooms they shouldn’t, and just generally creating some kitten-sized commotion
