Pet Connection: Meet Fawcett

FARGO — He’s been through some pretty horrific things in his short nine weeks on earth, so it’s surprising that little Fawcett is as composed as he is around humans.

He came in to Homeward Animal Shelter just one week ago with a shocking injury: his lower jaw was degloved.

That means the flesh, skin and fur had all been yanked off.

By what sort of trauma, it’s unknown — but it was immediately clear he’d need facial surgery to reattach everything.

Fawcett got through the intense procedure very nicely, and amazingly, aside from a little puffiness under his chin, you’d hardly be able now to tell at all he was that badly injured.

He is still a little sore, and because of it, he’s not eating yet quite as much as the folks from Homeward would like to see before they can put him up for adoption.

However, he is a champion snuggler, and in spite of his tender jaw, even managed to give some gentle love nibbles while we were shooting his Pet Connection profile.

Homeward’s Heather Klefstad says he’s just as affectionate and sweet at his foster mom’s, so with a few more weeks, this little survivor should be the perfect feline companion for anyone who appreciates a kid who’s taken it on the chin and kept a great attitude in spite of it.

And if you can’t bring home another pet, don’t forget to get involved with this Friday’s Wags, Whiskers and Wine fundraiser for the shelter pets and their care!
