Pet Connection: Meet Scooby
WEST FARGO — Sweet little Scooby comes to Pet Connection from the folks at CAARE avian rescue, and she’s a great choice to welcome their volunteers back to the show for their first adoption segment since reopening their permanent shelter after a deadly avian disease outbreak.
Scooby is an Amazon parrot who comes as a package deal with her life partner, Alan.
She’s somewhere in her thirties and has likely been with Alan since she was roughly 5 years old, and while Alan is not as warm and cuddly as Scooby is, it would be a bad idea to separate them, since birds can go into depression and die of a broken heart if they lose their companion bird.
And since Amazons can live to be in her 60s, it’s important to give her the best quality of life possible for as long as possible to come.
Scooby is extremely well-socialized, and likes to hang out on your arm or shoulder and make conversation.
She can speak several phrases and likes to burble, chatter and laugh, and might even be interested in learning a few new words and behaviors, given the right owner and a lot of interaction.
Handling bonded pairs of parrots can be a bit of a challenge, so Scooby and Alan are probably not the best fit for a first-time bird owner, especially given that they have substantial-size beaks and can give you a nasty pinch if they’re feeling fiesty.
But if you have the space and the skill, Scooby and her sweetheart could be a charming pair of companions in the right forever home.
