Health and Wellness for the Holidays: Workouts at Work
FARGO — From buying presents, to creating the perfect meals, to decorating the house and buying plane tickets, being saddled with so many extra responsibilities over the holidays can pile on the stress.
But skipping out on your daily workout in order to save precious time for other tasks is probably going to backfire on you, according to health and wellness experts.
Even a short workout can have significant benefits for your mental health and do a lot to defray additional seasonal stress.
And that’s where the latest in our weeklong series on health and wellness during the holidays comes in.
Sanford Health’s exercise experts joined the Morning Show to share some tips on squeezing in a workout when you don’t think you even have time to leave the office.
They say all it takes it some light equipment like dumbbells, bands, and an exercise ball.
Sanford training expert Kendall Railing says for beginners tackling the exercise ball, you’ll want to go slow at first, until your core strength catches up to demand.
He suggests you limit your first few times on the ball to no more than about twenty minutes per session.
And he says even ten minutes of movement can do a lot to get your blood moving and your mental outlook improved.
Railing joined the Morning Show to demonstrate some simple movements that you can do in small spaces like the office that can help you break a sweat and feel good in the midst of holiday pressure.
