MINNEAPOLIS (KVRR) — “Well, this is going to be the first time I’m going to say this in my life. My name’s Chris Madel and I’m running for governor of the great state of Minnesota.”

That is how Minneapolis attorney Chris Madel kicked off his campaign on Monday in front of a crowd of supporters and the media.

Madel using a power point presentation to explain his decision to run for office.

The Republican had a heavy emphasis on fraud cases in the state including the Feeding Our Future fraud that cost taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars.

He made headlines in 2024 while representing Trooper Ryan Londregan who was charged with murder following a traffic stop and later had the charge dropped.

The DFL party released a statement saying Madel built his career defending violent fraudsters, rapists, and pedophiles, getting many of their charges and cases thrown out along the way.

“This is the same party again talking about the rule of law. Well, do you want to go look at the Sixth Amendment, it says a right to counsel there, idiot. Honestly if that’s the best you got it looks like I’m your next governor, thanks,” said Madel.

He enters a crowded field of eight other Republican candidates in the race against Democrat Gov. Tim Walz as he seeks a third term next November.
