Federal charges filed against man tied to shooting in Fargo last September

Braden Poitra

FARGO, N.D. (KVRR) — Attempted murder and other state charges are dropped against 24-year-old Braden Poitra of Moorhead as federal charges are filed.

Poitra is charged in U.S. District Court in Fargo with being a felon in possession of a firearm, possession of drugs and possession of a firearm in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime.

State charges were dismissed last week.

Court records reveal that Poitra was found hiding in the trunk of a vehicle which was stopped in West Fargo last September by Metro Street Crimes Unit and West Fargo Police.

Also in the trunk officers discovered meth, fentanyl and a 9mm pistol and Poitra was arrested on multiple warrants.

Poitra and Dennis Salinas Jr. were wanted after a man was found shot at a house near 14th Street South and First Avenue in Fargo.

The September 17 shooting left the victim with non life-threatening injuries.

A detention hearing for Poitra is scheduled for Friday.
