Pet Connection: Meet Iris
FARGO — Iris’s is a story of survival and flourishing in spite of harsh conditions, a little like the tough and lovely flowers she’s named after.
She comes to Pet Connection from Journey Home rescue in Grand Forks, and they took her in from a puppy mill situation.
While the people who had her claimed her health was good, it emerged that later at her first vet’s exam Iris is completely blind.
The puppy mill operators were also using her as a breeding mother, and obviously blindness is not a trait you want to pass on in huskies.
However, in spite of her disability, Iris is blossoming in her foster home.
She quickly learned the layout of the house and can get around easily, and soon got used to having a name and responding to it, displaying good recall and coming when called in the yard.
She gets along well with the other foster dogs in her home, as well as with the family’s four children under 10 years old.
She likes the car and going on new adventures, and just needs a little bit of a guiding hand when she’s in new environments.
Best of all, she’s very affectionate, and just looking for a family to love.
