Pet Connection: Meet Bebop
FARGO — Walking a mile in someone’s shoes is usually not as easy as you’d think, it’s even harder if you’re trying to walk in the footsteps of Bebop the shepherd cross.
That’s because she has a congenital condition called cerebellar hypoplasia, which gives her a bit of a wiggle in her walk.
It sounds daunting, but what it means is that as a puppy, the part of her brain that deals with coordination, balance and orientation didn’t develop fully.
Volunteers at 4 Luv of Dog rescue determined that’s what was going on with Bebop after she was brought in from the local pound.
If she gets very excited, she runs into walls, so you do have to keep a bit of an eye on her, they say.
However, based on veterinary exams, says 4 Luv’s Cindy Holtan, it’s not a condition that will get worse as she gets older.
So, she should enjoy a a great quality of life with a full life expectancy ahead of her.
She likes the car, does well on a leash, and is warm and affectionate with all kinds of people, although cats are not recommended.
At just a year and ten months old, she’s in great physical condition with no other issues.
