Concert Celebrates Women in Local Music Scene

"Celebrating Women in Music" featured everything from Alanis Morissette tribute material to a student band from MSUM.

DILWORTH, MN (KVRR) – A special concert held this weekend shined the spotlight on women in the Fargo-Moorhead music scene.

“Celebrating Women in Music” took place at the TAK Music Venue in Dilworth.

Longtime organizer of the event Deb Jenkins recently stepped aside, leading Kari Marie to take up the mantle.

She says that there were times, coming up in the local scene, that she felt isolated as a woman, and wanted to make sure her peers felt heard and supported.

“It’s just a wonderful opportunity to showcase what we are able to create from our own musical minds, to share that with community, and then to join forces on stage and play with one another,” she said.

Marie says she plans to make this an annual event once more – but she’d like to move it back to March so it can coincide with women’s history month.
