UPDATE: Armed suicidal incident on North Dakota State Capitol grounds ends safely

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — A tense situation involving an armed suicidal male on the state capitol grounds in Bismarck has ended safely according to North Dakota Highway Patrol.

Law enforcement responded to the capitol grounds around 2 p.m.

They say the man was armed with a pistol and made no threats to the public, only toward himself.

People in the capitol were told to shelter in place.

State workers left around 5 p.m. through a designated exit.

The incident ended just before 6 p.m. when the man was taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KVRR) — At approximately 2:00 p.m. law enforcement responded to a report of a suicidal individual on the North Dakota State Capitol Grounds.

The subject is currently armed with a pistol. A secure perimeter has been established, and officers are actively working toward a safe and peaceful resolution.
The patrol says at this time, the individual has made no threats to the public; all threats have been directed only toward himself.
Multiple agencies are on scene, including the Bismarck Police Department and the North Dakota Highway Patrol, along with additional supporting partners. There is no ongoing threat to the public, but the area remains restricted while the situation continues and people at the capitol are urged to shelter in place.
