UND Officer Involved In Shooting

Police are investigating an early morning shooting at Altru Hospital in Grand Forks that involved a UND police officer.

Early this morning around 12:45, officers from several departments were involved in a pursuit that led to a shooting at the parking lot of Altru Hospital.

The North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation is conducting the investigation.

The event caught many people by surprise.

“Shocked, you really don’t expect anything like that to happen in Grand Forks at all,” said Dan Gooden of Grand Forks.

“I don’t know, don’t have very many shootings in Grand Forks I guess, kind of shocked to hear that,” said Robert Sheppard of Grand Forks.

Officials want people to know that the hospital is running as normal and that there is no danger to the public.

In a statement released by Altru Hospital, they say, “Altru is open today for services. Please know that Altru is still a safe environment to receive care as the situation is under control by local law enforcement.”

Many are also curious as to what exactly happened.

“It’d be interesting to find out what the background story, what led up to that is,” said Gooden.

We left a message with the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, but they have not replied.

We still do not know if anyone was injured.
