Success in Shoveling Dilworth Streets

Recent snowfall has kicked shoveling into high gear.

A winter initiative called “Shovel Dilworth” is getting people to help one another in clearing the snow.

This month has had the most snow people have seen here in Dilworth since last winter, meaning shoveling has been in full force for residents.

Dilworth resident Jeff Kramer said, “It’s not very much fun, especially when it’s cold out like today, but you gotta do it.”

A first time program “Shovel Dilworth” was created by the city and the company Green Core to encourage people to help with clearing snow off their own sidewalk and their neighbors.

Mayor of Dilworth Chad Olson said,”It is a way to not only help out your neighbors sidewalk but help the greater community, in terms of allowing students a safer route to get to school.”

People in Dilworth can also adopt a section of the sidewalk, and areas around bus stops and fire hydrants to keep snow free.

For those doing these good shoveling deeds, they can be rewarded with free gift cards by having people nominate them.

Along with free gift cards and clean streets, it’s building a closer community.

“Definitely, I think it’s a really good idea because people can go out and meet each other just say hi you never know what relationship could be built so anything to get out there and talking to people to meet and greet,” said Kramer.

If you would like to nominate someone for their good shoveling deeds, you can on the Dilworth city website http://www.dilworthcitymn.com.
