Record Breaking Numbers for F-M Housing

The Home Builders Association’s new numbers are looking good for F–M housing.

2014 was a record breaking year for Fargo, Moorhead, West Fargo and Dilworth with a construction total of $1.4 billion.

More than 4,400 permits were issued this past year which is the highest since 2008.

Fargo did see a decrease in single family and twin home housing due largely to the flood insurance changes.

President of the Home Builders Association of Fargo-Moorhead Clay Dietrich said, “It gives people an uncertainty of what’s going to happen to my cost to housing, because if you take a look at flood insurance and it goes up $200–300 dollars a month, most people don’t have an extra $200–300 a month to make a payment on.”

Home Builders Association officials also believe that with construction busier than ever, it’s more important than ever to secure permanent flood protection.
