LIVE: BIO Girls Begins
Teaching girls to believe in themselves, for all the right reasons.
FARGO — Girls in North Dakota are up against a lot these days.
And starting Tuesday, January 16th, you can sign up the little girl in your life for a program that can help her feel better about herself, in a world that’s not always on her side.
The nonprofit BIO Girls is opening 2024 program registration for girls from second to sixth grades.
It’s a program that helps girls build their self-esteem in ways that aren’t about her looks.
Studies show 45 percent of North Dakota girls report being bullied.
More than half have poor body image.
One in three reports poor mental health.
BIO Girls uses physical activity, healthy relationship-building, public service, and other elements to get girls focused on their inner beauty and worth before adolescence starts to steal it from them.
There are also BIO Girls programs designed for girls up to 17.
Registration is on a pay-as-you-can basis.
BIO Girls’ founder and CEO Missy Heilman sat down for a live interview to explain where the worrisome numbers come from, what BIO Girls programs do to change them, and how you can get your little girl involved.
