LIVE: Get Pumped For American Heart Month

It's National Wear Red Day, too.

FARGO — The clock is ticking to the time to celebrate and protect your ticker.

Thursday is the start of American Heart Month.

And Friday is National Wear Red Day for women’s heart health.

Yes, February is the month we love to celebrate all things hearts and love.

But loving your heart means taking some action to make it healthy.

Not only is heart disease the number one killer of both American men and women, but also, signs of heart attack don’t look the same in women as they do in men.

It’s not always the heavy-chest pressure you often see in male victims.

Instead, it can show up like jaw pain, or back pain.

Nausea and vomiting are also signs a woman could be having a heart attack.

The American Heart Association’s Jessica Lundgren says it’s important you know your numbers like blood pressure, blood sugar, and total cholesterol.

You also have to take time by yourself to check in with your body to see if you are experiencing pain, signs of stress, or other things your body is trying to tell you before it’s too late.

And if someone near you is having a heart attack, it’s important to have someone call 911 immediately while you administer hands-only CPR.

Lundgren and Sanford nurse Ashley Rae Johnson and their dummy friends stopped by the Morning Show to give us a refresher course in hands-only CPR and share some surprising facts about survival rates if you do have a heart attack outside a hospital setting.
