Believe it or not, Lutefisk scented candles arrive in Fargo
FARGO (KVRR) – You know what they say about lutefisk: Try it at your own lute-risk.
And now you can make your whole house smell like it, with a lutefisk-scented candle.
And for the first time, you can buy them in Fargo.
The culinary-scented creation, produced by Minnesota-based Uff Da Candles, is carried in downtown Fargo’s Stabo Scandinavian store.
The Morning Show folks tried it out for themselves.
Candle maker Kristin Johnson launched the product in August.
She says she developed the scent over the past two years with the help of a scent manufacturer.
She says even if you find the scent repulsive, there’s a nostalgia factor there for a lot of people in our region.
People also love to buy the candles as gag gifts or white elephant gifts for friends and family.
In addition to lutefisk, Uff Da Candles offers a lefse candle, with strong notes of butter, sugar and cinnamon and a hint of potato when it’s lit.
She also offers a bread-and-butter pickle candle, a gingersnap candle, and she’s developing a tater-tot hotdish candle as well.
Johnson joined the Morning Show to talk with Emily about why scent and our reactions to it vary so widely from person to person, what it takes to convince a scent manufacturer to make a lutefisk fragrance, and where she gets her inspiration from.
