LIVE: “Speed Dating” and “Turandot” Done Right by the Young Artists Program of the F-M Opera

FARGO — They’re some of the biggest voices coming out of the youngest singers in the country.

And now, Fargo-Moorhead Opera is showcasing them in their Young Artists program in their spring season, starting next month.

The young vocalists are selected through auditions from hundreds of other candidates from all over the country to come to Fargo and hone their craft.

Unlike some other performing arts like dance, pop music, and acting, opera singers don’t really blossom professionally until they’re much older.

These students are all about graduate school range, so they have some time before they reach full maturity in their vocal performance skills.

The Young Artists program is a rare chance for these performers to get stage time and training to do full-length shows, like this season’s “Speed Dating” and the well known “Turandot.”

Minnesota native and soprano Emily Holter, and Los Angeleno and tenor Greg Sliskovitch, along with F-M Opera director Curt Olds,  joined Emily on the Morning Show to talk about why it’s so exciting to bring opera to the next generation, what they love most about discovering new things in this very old art form, and what you should know if you’ve never been to the opera before.
